Wanted Fredericksburg Man Faces New Drug, Obstruction Charges In Stafford Arrest

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 40-year-old Fredericksburg man wanted on outstanding warrants from Spotsylvania County was arrested Thursday night in Stafford County and now faces new felony drug and misdemeanor obstruction charges after deputies said they found narcotics in his possession and he threatened deputies during his arrest.

According to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the Falmouth Drive area shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday after receiving information that a wanted individual was in the area. Deputies located Robert Eugene Kiger and arrested him on the outstanding warrants.

The sheriff's office said Kiger made threatening statements toward deputies during the arrest, resulting in an additional obstruction charge. During a search of his pockets, deputies also recovered suspected narcotics.

New Charges Filed In Stafford

Kiger was charged with felony possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance and misdemeanor obstruction of justice involving threats or force. He was also served with the outstanding Spotsylvania warrants and was held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Court records show the drug charge is a Class 5 felony. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 29 in Stafford General District Court. The obstruction charge remains pending on the same hearing date.

Under Virginia law, a Class 5 felony carries a potential sentence of one to 10 years in prison, or up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500 if the court or jury elects to treat the offense as a misdemeanor.

Outstanding Spotsylvania Cases

The warrants served Thursday stem from several pending cases in Spotsylvania County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.

Court records show Kiger was arrested on capiases related to an alleged failure to comply with a court order and an alleged failure to appear. Those matters, along with a pending domestic assault case filed in 2024, were continued following his arrest. A status hearing and adjudicatory proceedings are scheduled for Sept. 17.

Kiger is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
