Fredericksburg Man Fatally Struck By Driver In Philadelphia: Police

A Fredericksburg man was killed by a driver following an argument, Philadelphia police said. The victim's father is a Spotsylvania officer.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A suspect surrendered to Philadelphia authorities Tuesday in the death of a Fredericksburg man who police said was deliberately hit by a driver outside a bar.

Jason Corona, 24, of Fredericksburg, was at The Union Tap in Philadelphia Sunday celebrating a relative's return from military deployment after midnight Sunday, police said. The fatal confrontation happened after a man bothered a woman who was with Corona, and he stepped in to help, NBC 4 Washington reported.

Corona recently graduated from George Mason University. His father, Frank Corona, is a detective for the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office, NBC said.

"I think she was shunning his advances and, at some point, the decedent stepped in, and this escalated to the point of a confrontation," Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said at a news conference.

Vanore said the accused hit-and-run driver, a 22-year-old man, sped through the parking lot, then struck Corona.

Frederick Falcon, 22, hit Corona with a vehicle after they fought at the bar over Corona's sister, CBS News reported.

Falcon is charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle, and other related offenses, CBS said.
