Fredericksburg Man Killed While Pushing Moped On Highway

The 66-year-old man was pushing the moped in a northbound lane of Route 1 when he was struck from behind by a car.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 66-year-old man was killed Tuesday night when a car hit him while he was pushing a moped in a northbound lane of Jefferson Davis Highway. According to Fredericksburg police, James Thomas Parker of Fredericksburg was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Just before 7 p.m. last night, police said Parker was pushing the moped in the left lane in the 3300 block of the highway. The driver that hit him was moving from the right lane to the left lane when the collision occurred. Police said bystanders performed CPR on Parker prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.

The accident is currently under investigation as police work to reconstruct the collision.
