Fredericksburg Officers Begin 250-Mile Journey To Honor Fallen Colleagues
Fredericksburg law enforcement members began a 250-mile bicycle ride to Washington, D.C. Sunday to support families of fallen officers.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Sworn and civilian members of the Fredericksburg Police Department began a 250-mile bicycle trek Sunday as part of the annual Law Enforcement United "Road to Hope" ride.
The journey, which travels from Chesapeake to Washington, D.C., during Police Week, is designed to honor officers who died in the line of duty and provide support to their families. More than 500 law enforcement officers participate in the event each year.
The local contingent, known as Team Fredericksburg, includes city police officers and deputies from the Fredericksburg Sheriff’s Office, along with other local law enforcement members and citizens. Department employees have participated in the ride as both cyclists and support staff for more than a decade.

"They ride to honor the fallen, support the survivors, and ensure that the sacrifices made in the line of duty are never forgotten," the Fredericksburg Police Department stated in a social media post Sunday. "Each mile is a tribute, each pedal stroke a reminder that their memory lives on."
Law Enforcement United is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization. According to the group, its mission is to "honor the fallen and remember the survivors." The organization provides financial and emotional assistance to the families of fallen officers through several programs.
