Fredericksburg Police Release New Video Of Fires At HQ Building

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The Fredericksburg Police Department on Wednesday released a new video of the fires that occurred at its headquarters in the early morning hours of May 31. The two fires were quickly extinguished by the Fredericksburg Fire Department.

In the video, at about 12:35 a.m. on Sunday, May 31, an unknown male poured a flammable fluid on the Fallen Officer Memorial and then ignited the fluid, according to the police. He then went to the front entrance to the Fredericksburg Police Department headquarters where he poured more fluid and set a separate fire. It took the suspect less than 50 seconds to pour the liquid and set the two fires.

The fires did not cause any injuries. The Fredericksburg Police Department and the Fredericksburg Fire Marshal are conducting a joint investigation.

Peaceful protests were held the day before — Saturday, May 30 — in Fredericksburg as people marched to City Hall in support of George Floyd who died under the knee of a police officer in Minneapolis. The marchers also called for greater police accountability and oversight of law enforcement agencies.

The Fredericksburg police are offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who set the fires. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call 540-373-3122. To make an anonymous tip, send a text to “847-411” and text “FPDtip” followed by your tip.
