Fredericksburg, VA-
In July of 2011 roller derby came to the Fredericksburg area for the first time with the establishment of the Five 40 Roller Girls, now Fredericksburg Roller Derby (FRD). In 2013 FRD, a non-profit organization, found a home at Golden Skateworld, off Route 3 in Fredericksburg, VA. With last October’s closing of Golden Skate World, FRD has lost their home.
With games still left in the season and boot camp already in the works, the league members of FRD were able to find temporary locations to close out their calendar year. Now, with the 2017 season rapidly approaching, it is important that the league quickly finds a new home.

“It’s an extremely difficult time right now for the league,” stated FRD head coach Jenny “Bettie BareKnuckles” McGuigan. “Last year we underwent a total rebranding, we’re getting ready to graduate a whole group of new skaters and, by the end of this month, we will be down to one practice a week. For a Nationally ranked team, that’s a major problem.”
In 2015 FRD became a nationally ranked league with the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). In 2016 the league’s name change from Five 40 Roller Girls to Fredericksburg Roller Derby and move to a new logo allowed them to more accurately represent their WFTDA membership, while allowing them to incorporate elements unique to the local Fredericksburg community.

FRD is currently seeking a rental space in the local Fredericksburg/Stafford area. To efficiently practice roller derby and prepare for the upcoming season, FRD is looking for a level surface of 6,500 to 9,600’ square feet. Acceptable surfaces include: sport court, concrete and hardwood.
“Roller Derby through FRD has not only been a powerful outlet for me at a rough time in my life, it has been a great source of friendship I didn’t know how much I needed,” said new league member Jessica “Jess B Ragin’” Bennet. “The physical strength I’ve gained pales in comparison to the confidence boost I now have to reach any and all goals regardless of how many times I fall and or stumble.”
