Free Lance-Star Sold to BH Media
Fredericksburg newspaper previously sold in 2014 in bankruptcy auction now in the hands of a Virginia media leader.
FREDERICKSBURG — The Free Lance-Star has been sold once again, this time to one of Virginia’s big players in the media industry.
BH Media Group, the owner of the Richmond Times-Dispatch and other high profile papers in the state, has purchased the Fredericksburg newspaper, its website and printing operations, according to a Times-Dispatch report.
The Free Lance-Star was sold in 2014 to Sandton Capital Partners during a bankruptcy auction.

“We are pleased to see FLS transitioning to such a well-respected, strategic operator in the community newspaper space. The employees of FLS, and the community it serves, will be beneficiaries of BH Media’s stewardship for many years to come,” said Rob Orr, managing director at Sandton Capital Partners.
In Virginia, BH Media owns The Times-Dispatch, and daily newspapers in Roanoke, Charlottesville, Danville, Lynchburg, Bristol, Waynesboro, Culpeper and Martinsville, as well as 18 weeklies.
