A free lecture on Pompeii will be delivered by Dr. Marjorie Och, professor of Art History at University of Mary Washington, on Friday, November 10, at St. George’s Church, 905 Princess Anne Street. A social moment begins at 6:30, with the lecture following at 7 PM. The lecture is part of a continuing series of cultural talks offered by The Fredericksburg-Este Association. Entrance to the lecture is via the George Street side of the Church.

Dr. Och has a particular interest in Italy, and has published widely on numerous Italian subjects. She has headed Study Abroad programs in England, Croatia, and Italy. Her lecture on Pompeii includes both historical and art historical notes about Pompeii, which was destroyed with the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The artefacts, including stunning mosaics preserved in the volcanic ash for millennia, now provide detailed insights about life during the Pax Romana.

The Fredericksburg-Este Association, founded in 2015, nurtures friendship and cultural understanding between the two cities through exchanges, programs, and events. More information is found at www.fred-este.org.
