Gamestop Will Not Open on Thanksgiving Day

Are you getting out and shopping on Thanksgiving Day?

With the holiday shopping season approaching one national chain has announced its stores will not be open on Thanksgiving Day, reopening at 5 a.m. Black Friday.

GameStop announced Monday all it’s U.S. stores once again will be closed on Thanksgiving. GameStop has locations throughout the Fredericksburg region.

The decision is part of the specialty retailer’s core values of ‘Protecting the Family’ and doing the right thing to disrupt the emerging trend in the retail industry of taking away holidays from customers and associates, according to a release.

The move follows a recent announcement by Staples that it would be closed, leaving Thanksgiving shopping to other retailers.

This year, GameStop will open all U.S. stores at 5 a.m. local time on Black Friday.

“This year GameStop will be offering bigger and better Black Friday deals than we have ever offered before,” said Mike Buskey, executive vice president and president of U.S. Stores. ”So enjoy Thanksgiving Day with family and friends, and be sure to stop by one of our stores before and on Black Friday to get some great offers!”

For Thanksgiving 2014, Barnes & Noble, Costco, REI and Nordstroms were also closed.
