Gymboree Closing Eight Virginia Stores
The kid clothing chain Gymboree announced store closings Tuesday, a month after filing for bankruptcy. See the Virginia stores targeted.
Children's clothing retailer Gymboree on Tuesday announced it will close hundreds of stores in the United States, including eight stores in Virginia. The same chain operates Crazy 8, another children's clothing store, which will close two stores in the state. The company filed for bankruptcy in June. Gymboree currently operates more than 1,200 stores nationwide, and 350 of them will close starting July 18.
“Importantly, we will continue to operate a majority of our stores and will continue to deliver quality merchandise and superior service to our customers at our Gymboree, Janie and Jack and Crazy 8 brands," Daniel Griesemer, president and CEO of Gymboree, said in a statement. "This was a difficult decision to make, but we are confident that it is in the best long-term interest of our Company, our customers and our broader employee base."
Those closures follow other large retailers such as Macy’s, Sears, JCPenney, Payless, Bebe and Radio Shack.
