Hazardous Conditions Advisory: Northern Virginia Weather

STERLING, VA—A threat of severe thunderstorms and damaging winds Tuesday and Tuesday night, along with the potential for spot flooding, has prompted a hazardous weather advisory from the National Weather Service's satellite headquarters in Sterling.

After that, though, we're looking at a string of relatively delightful days with ample sunshine and pleasant temperatures—something that's especially welcome at this juncture in the summer. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tuesday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 83. Southeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 7pm, then scattered showers and thunderstorms between 7pm and 1am, then a slight chance of showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 79. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph.
