Jackets Deliver on Senior Night
Jayem field hockey comes up with three second-half goals in victory over King George.

James Monroe was able to push across three second-half goals en route to a 3-0 victory over King George on Thursday, capping off the Yellow Jackets' “Senior Night.”
The Jackets found themselves in a scoreless deadlock as they honored their seniors at halftime. Three seniors, midfielder Kirby Koch, defender Savannah Snead and goalie Christie Baer, were honored during the halftime ceremony. Each played a pivotal role in the win.
After a defensive first half, JM’s underclassmen provided some much needed offensive firepower. Sophomore midfielder Hannah Fisher broke the scoring drought two minutes into the second half by driving in a goal during a scrum in front of the net.

James Monroe head coach Jamie Tierney praised her team’s hard work after the game. “King George is a very fast team and we didn’t take them for granted,” Tierney said. “We worked together as a team and focused on our passing game.”
One of the seniors honored at halftime, Savannah Snead, praised her teammates, and in particular, the underclassmen. “It was very important that we got that win,” Snead said after the game, “the whole team, especially the younger players played well tonight. I think the team has a good future.”
Looking ahead to the near future, the Yellow Jackets will face some stiff opposition as they enter their district and regional playoffs. “There will be tough competition for the rest of our season,” Tierney said, “Due to all the rain cancellations lately, we need to focus on our fitness and keep up the hard work.”
On the other side of the ball, King George junior goalie Jackie Gover had a phenomenal outing with 15 saves and only three goals against. In addition to posting an 83.3% save percentage, Gover and the Foxes also successfully defended 19 penalty corners.
JM Senior goalie Christie Baer had two saves in the shutout including one in the final seconds of the game that sparked the Yellow Jackets' “Senior Night” celebration.
