JM Football Game Delayed by Rain

Update: The heavy rains soaking the area have forced school officials to postpone tonight's home district play opener at Maury Stadium. The game has been moved to Monday evening at 7:30 p.m.

Sure, three lopsided victories (two of which came against group AAA schools) were great, but a whole new phase of the season starts Friday for Coach Rich Serbay and the James Monroe Yellow Jackets football team. The Battlefield District is well-known to be one of the strongest in Region I, and JM is about to get into the meat of conference play.

First up is Eastern View High out of Culpeper, V.A. The Cyclones are owners of a 2-1 record, with their most recent action coming in the form of a 52-8 victory over Brunswick last Friday.

Through three games, the JM offense has looked like the second coming of "The Greatest Show on Turf," compiling 162 points in those contests. A strong rushing attack has been the key, as senior tail back Ethan Preston's effectiveness has forced opponents to roll out in eight and nine man fronts.

This has opened up the opportunity for quarterback Demontaz Brown to shine. The junior signal caller has demonstrated good decision-making ability so far this season, and has also done some damage with his feet. Look for the Yellow Jackets to utilize the run game early in an effort to stay two-dimensional offensively.

Coach Serbay's take:

"I don't think they [Eastern View] are as potent as they were last year. I think we match up well; I'm really looking forward to it, the kids are looking forward to it. We're excited about the Eastern View game."
