
JoAnn E. James, 55, of Fredericksburg passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015 at Mary Washington Hospital after a brave one year battle fighting cancer.
Mrs. James was a graduate of Fordham University. She received her master’s degree from Old Dominion University. Mrs. James worked several years for the FBI in New York. She was a teacher at Holy Cross Academy. She was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister.
Survivors include her husband, David W. James; two sons, Michael James and David James of Fredericksburg; mother Adrienne Palma of Manteo, NC; sister Adrienne Palma of Manteo, NC; brother Anthony Palma (Kate) of Little Silver, NJ; niece Ann Palma; nephew Christopher Palma both of Little Silver, NJ; and mother- in- law Alice James of Lake Geneva, WI. She also leaves behind all of her students and colleagues from Holy Cross Academy.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Fredericksburg. A vigil prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
A Mass of Celebration will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28 at the church. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in Culpeper National Cemetery.
