Joseph Thomas Duffy, 73

Joseph Thomas Duffy, 73, of Stafford County passed away Monday, July 7, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Duffy was a proud Scrantonian and a graduate of South Scranton Catholic High School, and a U. S. Army veteran. He was retired from the Dept. of Labor as a personnel management specialist.  He was a communicant and third degree member of the Knights of Columbus and St. William of York Catholic Church. He was a 34-year member and Past President of the Aquia Harbour Host Lions Club. Mr. Duffy served as the District 24-A Governor and Lions of Virginia Council Chairman during Lion Year 1996-97. He was the recipient of numerous club and Lions Clubs International awards including the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award which is the Lions Clubs International Foundation highest honor. He missed being a charter member of the Aquia Harbour Host Lions Club by six months.

Survivors include his caring and loving wife, Meg Duffy; daughter Erin Welch and her husband, Robert; the light of his life granddaughter, Suzanne Lavoie; brother Edward Duffy and his wife, Grace; sister Anne Snyder; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Regina Duffy; and brother Paul Duffy.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford.

A Mass of Celebration will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 14, at St. William of York Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery.
