Layla Tul Qadr–The Night of Decree

A time of special acceptance of prayers

Ramadan is a month full of blessings. In this month Muslims around the world engage in sincere worship of God as best as they can. This month is divided into three sections called ‘ Ashra’ meaning 10 days. The third Ashra reminds us to gain abundance of blessings as we are close to the end of Ramadan. The most significant thing in Ramadan is called ‘Layla Tul Qadr’ which literally means, ‘The Night of Decree’. It is a night which is commonly associated with the revelation of the Holy Qur’an to The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

The 97th chapter of Holy Qur’an is named Al-Qadr which states, “In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Surely, We sent it down during the Night of Decree. And what shall make thee know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. Therein descend angels and the Spirit by the command of their Lord with Divine decree concerning every matter. It is all peace till the rising of the dawn. (97:1-6). Muslim looks forward to this in the odd nights of the third Ashra. A true believer experiences special acceptance of prayers. We should avail of these blessings and preserve them in our hearts.

May God enable us to be the true followers and to gather all the blessings showered on us by God during the month.
