STAFFORD COUNTY, VA —An intoxicated man broke into a Stafford home on Thanksgiving and ate a family's leftovers, the county sheriff's office said.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office did not publicly identify the suspect when they published a report on Tuesday. He was charged with breaking and entering and driving under the influence and held without bond.

If convicted, the man could face up to five years in prison, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, deputies received a call from a home on Smith Street. The caller said a neighbor was in her kitchen, authorities said.

"Deputies entered the residence and discovered the suspect to be wobbling as he was gobbling," the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook. "The suspect had feasted not only with his eyes, but he stuffed himself with delicious goods."

During the break-in, the suspect also poured coffee grounds onto some of the leftover food, police officials said.

"The icing on the cake was in fact leftover cake. Deputies detained the mashed potato murderer before he set his eyes on the pie," the sheriff's office wrote. "The suspect admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving to his neighbor’s residence. Considering the cake wasn’t a rum cake, it was determined he drove in an intoxicated state."

Deputies took the man into custody without further incident.
