STAFFORD, VA – A man is missing after going into the Rappahannock River late Sunday afternoon and not returning to shore.

The Stafford Sheriff’s Office was alerted about 5:30 p.m., and a search failed to locate the man, described as a 36-year-old Hispanic with a medium build and wearing dark shorts.

The search team included a helicopter from the Fairfax County police department, Fredericksburg Police, Fredericksburg Fire and Rescue and Stafford Fire and Rescue. The search was halted because of darkness and dangerous river conditions.
