Man Seriously Injured During High-Speed Chase With Deputies

A car driven by a Fredericksburg man went off the road and flipped while he was attempting to evade Stafford County deputies.

STAFFORD, VA — A Fredericksburg man was seriously injured this morning when the car he was driving left the road and flipped while he was attempting to evade police. According to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, the 34-year-old man was driving on the wrong side of the road before deputies pulled him over.

According to a sheriff's report, a deputy pulled the driver over at 7:12 a.m. near John Lee Pratt Park at 120 River Road. While conducting the traffic stop, the deputy smelled marijuana coming from the car and called additional deputies to the scene.

Before backup arrived, officials said the driver attempted to flee, prompting a high-speed chase by deputies. During the chase, the driver's vehicle left the roadway and flipped, ejecting him from the car. Rescue personnel responded and the victim was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Investigation into the incident continues. Charges against the driver are pending, officials said.
