Man Shoots at Deputies, Injures K-9 Dog in Spotsylvania: Sheriff's Office
Suspect is armed and dangerous; dog taken to emergency veterinary hospital, according to Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.
SPOTSYLVANIA, VA — A fleeing man on foot who shot at deputies and also shot a K-9 dog Sunday night is on the loose and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.
Joseph Conway, 34, of King George County, is wanted on charges of two counts of attempted capital murder of law enforcement and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Shortly after 9 p.m., deputies pulled over a vehicle for a minor infraction, after which the driver was found to be wanted on numerous felony warrants in Fredericksburg, and was taking into custody without incident.

But the passenger, Conway, got out of the vehicle and became involved in a physical altercation with deputies and took off on foot. A K-9 unit already had arrived and the law enforcement dog was released to chase Conway, along with officers.
During a short pursuit, deputies say, Conway pulled out a pistol and shot at the officers. They weren't hit but the dog was. Deputies returned fire but lost Conway when he ran into a nearby neighborhood. It's unknown if he was injured during the exchange of gunfire.

The K-9, named Dux, was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital, and its condition is unknown.
