Man Wanted For Attempted Murder Kills Himself In Stafford: Police
A Richmond man wanted for attempted murder in Henrico County has died after shooting himself in the head in Stafford County, police said.
STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A Richmond man who shot himself in the head Thursday evening as Stafford County Sheriff's deputies were trying to catch him in the parking lot of a Hampton Inn has died, the sheriff's office said Friday. The man, Patrick Lamar Jones, 42, of Richmond was wanted for allegedly shooting a woman in Henrico County on Wednesday.
At around 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, Stafford deputies responded to the Hampton Inn at 2925 Jefferson Davis Highway after Jones was observed in a vehicle in the parking lot. When Stafford deputies arrived, the suspect attempted to leave the area. Deputies were able to stop the vehicle at the hotel parking lot entrance.
But Jones then took out a gun and shot himself. Jones was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, the sheriff's office announced Friday afternoon.

As Stafford deputies were approaching the man in the parking lot, “the suspect then brandished a firearm and shot himself in the head," Major Shawn Kimmitz with the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said in a video statement posted on social media.
On Wednesday night, the Henrico County Police Division received a call for a domestic-related shooting. Officers arrived and found an injured woman who was transported to an area hospital for a significant injury and is currently in stable condition. Henrico County detectives identified Jones as the suspect. Warrants were obtained for Jones' arrest on charges of attempted murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Henrico County police are continuing to investigate the shooting of the woman.
