Man Shot After Attacking Cop In Fredericksburg: Police

A man attacked a cop with a box cutter and then was shot by the officer early Monday night in Fredericksburg: Virginia State Police.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA—A man who attacked a cop with a box cutter and then was shot by the officer early Monday night before fleeing in the 1900 block of Airport Avenue was found and arrested about four hours later, according to Virginia State Police.

Joseph L. Jackson, 24, of Fredericksburg, was treated and released from a nearby hospital and then charged with one felony count of attempted capital murder of a police officer. He's being held without bond. The officer was briefly hospitalized with minor injuries.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., Fredericksburg Police received a 911 call regarding a domestic disturbance. One of its officers went to the residence, and Jackson attacked him with a box cutter before being shot in self defense. He was found shortly before 10 p.m. near the intersection of Route 3 (Blue Gray Parkway) and Route 2 (Dixon Street).
