FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A man tried to abduct a 10-year-old girl at an apartment complex on Friday afternoon, the Fredericksburg Police Department said.

The girl was able to escape and ran home. Authorities have not found or identified the man.

The abduction attempt happened around 4:15 p.m. on Friday at the Commons Apartment complex in Fredericksburg. The police department said a 10-year-old girl was walking near the leasing office.

A man started talking to the girl before grabbing her and placing her hands behind her back, according to the police report.

The girl was able to break free and escape. The man then drove away, authorities said.

The police department described the suspect as a white man in his 40s. He is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and had an average build. He was wearing black t-shirt, gray jeans, and black glasses. He was driving a gray sedan.

The victim told family members that she had seen the man around the apartment complex before.
