Dumfries Man Wanted For Shooting Girlfriend's Brother In Spotsylvania: Police

A man from Dumfries is wanted by police after authorities said he shot his girlfriend's brother in Spotsylvania County on Sunday.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A Dumfries man shot his girlfriend's brother in Spotsylvania County on Sunday morning, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office said. Authorities are still looking for the suspected shooter.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. His injuries were not life-threatening, according to the police report.

Investigators have identified the suspect as 21-year-old Emanuel James. He is wanted on charges of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

The shooting occurred around 11 a.m. on Sunday in the 3300 block of Hidaway Court in the Rockland Creek Estates neighborhood. Authorities said James and the victim had an argument that escalated at the victim's home.

"Emanuel and the victim’s sister who are dating, were arguing when the victim came outside to aid his sister," the sheriff's office said in a news release. "At some point during the argument between the two men, Emanuel produced a gun and shot the victim."
