Margaret Franklin Announces Congressional Run In VA District 7
Woodbridge Supervisor Margaret Franklin is joining a crowded race for the congressional seat being vacated by Abigail Spanberger in 2024.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Margaret Franklin, who represents Woodbridge on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, is running in Virginia's 7th Congressional District, her campaign announced on Monday.
Franklin joins a crowded race for the seat currently held by Abigail Spanberger. Spanberger is not running for reelection in 2024 as she plans to run for governor in 2025.
The 7th district includes eastern Prince William County, Stafford County, the City of Fredericksburg, King George County, and Orange County.

Franklin was first elected as a county supervisor in 2019. Previously, she worked on Capitol Hill with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congresswoman Alma Adams.
"From protecting our families from gun violence to standing up for women’s reproductive rights, we deserve leaders who know how to deliver on our Democratic values now more than ever," Franklin said in a news release on Monday. "Whether it’s as a county supervisor or as a public servant working in the halls of Congress, I have always been about one thing: delivering real results for working families."

Franklin's campaign announcement included endorsements from fellow Supervisor Victor Angry, former Congressman Al Lawson, and Congresswoman Alma Adams.
"As my legislative director for many years, Margaret worked tirelessly to advance our Democratic values in Congress and pass policies that have improved the lives of people across the country," Lawson said in a statement. "I know firsthand that her immense dedication and work ethic will make her an incredibly effective member of Congress."
Franklin joins a race that already includes fellow Democrats Eugene Vindman and Delegate Brianna Sewell. Republicans Bill Moher, Jon Meyers, and Cameron Hamilton are also running for the seat.
