Martin Luther King Jr. was a man who led the civil rights movement to free us from racism and segregations. As a leader of this movement, his most famous address was the “I Have a Dream” speech. He opened people's eyes in a good way and removed the darkness prevailing at that time. His work is inspiring for all of us.
Dr. King was the youngest man to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1968 for his great work. He is also the only non-president to have a National Holiday to honor his hard work.
Dr. King’s message is essence of all religions. The Holy Qur'an teaches us to value diversity. It states, “And among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the diversity of your tongue and color” (39:23). The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) gave this advice to Muslims 1400 years ago. He said, “All of you are equal. All men, whatever station in life they may hold, are equal…”

As an American Muslim, I think we should continue the legacy of Dr. King by promoting unity.
