FREDERICKSBURG, VA — What's the pay at Mary Washington, a school with a considerably smaller enrollment than most public universities in the Commonwealth? The Richmond Times-Dispatch obtained state employees’ names, job titles and salaries using Virginia's Freedom of Information statute, and the University of Mary Washington is included.
According to figures obtained by the newspaper, Mary Washington had 725 employees with average salaries of $59,493. President Troy Paino made $370,500. For the sake of comparison, here's a look at the pay at other selected schools in Virginia:
- George Mason University in Fairfax had 4,038 employees with an average salary of $76,839. President Angel Cabrera made $683,717.
- The University of Virginia in Charlottesville had 7,927 employees with an average salary of $81,215. President Teresa Sullivan made $754,830.
- Virginia Tech in Blacksburg had 7,458 employees with an average salary of $69,558. President Timothy Sands made $770,850.
- James Madison University in Harrisonburg had 2,999 employees with an average salary of $58,926. President Jonathan Alger made $478,888.
- Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond had 5,965 employees with an average salary of $71,262. President Michael Rao made $875,284.
- The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg had 2,240 employees with an average salary of $71,905. President W. Taylor Reveley made $550,000.
- Old Dominion University in Norfolk had 2,471 employees with an average salary of $65,605. President John Broderick made $636,194.
