STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A customer at a Dunkin' in Stafford County was assaulted in the restaurant's parking lot Wednesday afternoon by a customer who was not wearing a mask, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

At around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, a Stafford County Sheriff's deputy responded to the Dunkin' at 305 Garrisonville Road for a report of a "fight in the parking lot," the sheriff's office said. Upon arrival, the deputy learned there was an incident in the store because one of the customers, Maria Delgado, 29, of Stafford, allegedly was not wearing a mask.

The sheriff's office said Delgado then allegedly waited outside the store for the other customer and the argument became physical. Both customers sustained minor injuries in the altercation, according to the sheriff's office.

According to an employee at the Dunkin' store, both a man and a woman were not wearing face masks during the incident. The employee's supervisor then asked the couple to put on masks. The employee told Patch that he did not see what happened when the customers went outside the restaurant.

Another customer inside the Dunkin' store at the time of the incident said the woman and the man were irate and "started shouting at a woman ordering ice cream, believing she 'told' on them."

The customer said in a comment to Patch that there are signs posted on Dunkin's door asking everyone to wear masks. "The manager simply asked the couple to please wear a mask the next time they visit," she said. "That's it ... and they went crazy! The other woman didn't say anything until they started berating her, but she maintained her cool and calmly ordered."

According to the eyewitness, the woman who was arrested told the other woman that she would wait outside to "beat her ass" and the other woman "brushed it off."

When the woman left with her little girl, the other woman followed her, yelling and knocking the ice cream "all over her little girl." The husband of the woman with the little girl then left his car after he made sure his daughter was safe in the car.

The woman arrested and her husband, who also waited, "blocked the woman's car from leaving," the eyewitness said in comments to Patch.

"Thankfully, a young man and his friend came to the couple's aide to stop the assault," the eyewitness said.

Delgado was arrested for assault and battery and released on a personal recognizance bond, the sheriff's office said.
