FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Trash customers in the City of Fredericksburg will have new microchipped trash cans delivered to their homes next week, city officials said.

The new containers have the "FXBG" logo stamped on the side and include a microchip for "location and inventory control," the news release said.

The new trash receptacle will arrive on normal trash collection days starting on Monday.

The trash can replacement process will involve three steps:

  • Customers should place their old trash cart out for regular weekly collection. The regularly scheduled truck will empty trash from the can.
  • A different city truck will remove the old, now-empty trash cart.
  • The cart manufacturer will deliver the new trash cans separately.

"Due to collection, removal, and delivery variables, the new cart may arrive before the old cart is emptied and/or removed," the City of Fredericksburg wrote on Facebook. "Customers are asked to leave old carts on the curb for removal. When your new cart arrives, please store it off the curb and use for all future collections."
