Museum Day Live 2016: Get Free Tickets to Fredericksburg Museums
Sponsored by the Smithsonian Magazine, Saturday's event provides unique access to several area museums that typically charge admission.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — If the fee has been keeping you from experiencing some of Fredericksburg's historical sites, Museum Day Live! has an offer you can't refuse. The annual event provides unique tickets for free admission this Saturday, Sept. 24, to participating museums across the country, including four historical sites in downtown Fredericksburg.
Participating museum sites include the James Monroe Museum, as well as the Washington Heritage Museums: the Mary Washington House, the Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop and the Rising Sun Tavern.
Standard admission to the James Monroe Museum is typically $6, and you'd pay $5 at the WHM properties on a regular day.

The Museum Day Live! tickets, available online at SmithsonianMag, will provide free admission at any participating site this Saturday. You can also search participating museums.
The James Monroe Museum offers a close look at artifacts and documents of the nation's fifth president, including his time serving in the American Revolution and as a 2-term president. Opened in 1927, the museum is housed in the same building Monroe used as a lawyer in Fredericksburg in the 1780s.

The Mary Washington House is one of the most recognizable homes in downtown Fredericksburg. The home was purchased by George Washington for his mother in 1772 and she spent her final 17 years in the home.
