No-Shave November Means Goatees For Cops in Fredericksburg

It's in conjunction with the Movember Foundation, which promotes men's health. Normally, Fredericksburg Police don't allow goatees.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Cops in Fredericksburg — at least those of the male variety — aren't allowed to have goatees while on duty, which pretty much means they're never going to be able sport a goatee. But that has changed — for this month, anyway.

The department is taking part in "No-Shave November," a program that helps raise funds for cancer research, education and prevention.

If officers make a $30 donation to the Movember Foundation, a global charity focusing on men's health, they'll be allowed to grow a goatee to whatever hairy splendor it turns out to be.

The Movember Foundation is a partner to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and shares 50 percent of all donations with the Prostate Cancer Foundation. The remaining donations go toward focusing on testicular cancer, mental health and physical inactivity in men.

"If our campaign at the Fredericksburg Police Department can convince one man to get checked, then it is well worth it,” said Officer Paul Dooley. who started the No-Shave November movement last year."
