Northern Virginia Weather: Approaching Normal

STERLING, VA—Having sidestepped what turned out to be an imaginary snowstorm, Northern Virginia greets a work-week weather forecast that, according to the National Weather Service's area headquarters in Sterling, gets progressively warmer headed into next weekend.

As for rain? As WRC (Channel 4) points out: "Anything we do see will be on the light side but we will carry the chance through the day tomorrow and into Tuesday morning." Sunshine rolls in again Wednesday and will stick around for a while. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tonight: Increasing clouds, with a low around 33. North wind 5 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Monday: A slight chance of rain and snow between 9am and noon, then a chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 47. Northeast wind around 7 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Monday Night: A chance of light rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tuesday: A chance of light rain before 9am. Partly sunny, with a high near 57. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 38. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 57.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 42.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 68.
