Northern Virginia Weather: Big Change Looms for Work Week

STERLING, VA—With the exception of a possible stray, quick-strike thunderstorm here and there, Sunday will give way to a work week that features plenty of sunshine for folks in the Northern Virginia area. That's the word from the National Weather Service's satellite center in Sterling and other area forecasters.

Both Monday and Tuesday are expected to be mostly sunny with highs in the low 80s and a scant chance of any rain. After that, though, according to the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang, "mugginess makes a midweek comeback along with the chance of showers and storms."

Sunday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 69. Northwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. North wind around 10 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 63. Northeast wind around 7 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Light and variable wind becoming east around 6 mph in the morning.

Tuesday Night: A slight chance of showers after 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Thursday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 74.
