Northern Virginia Weather: Big Changes Ahead

Northern Virginia's Columbus Day weekend weather forecast calls for big changes compared to what was a most-welcome Friday.

STERLING, VA—Friday's relatively cool conditions soon will be a fond memory. Northern Virginia's weekend weather forecast calls for a gradual increase in heat and humidity but with showers largely confined to Saturday morning. Sunshine is expected to return by Sunday, but so is mugginess that feels as if it's reaching "tropical levels," according to the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang. Highs both Sunday and Monday are expected to be in the mid 80s. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

Friday Night: Areas of drizzle with a slight chance of rain after midnight. Areas of fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. East wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
