Northern Virginia Weather: Bumpy Start To Work Week

STERLING, VA — Following a span of excessive heat and humidity, the upcoming work week for Northern Virginia is expected to offer a bit less of both — but only a bit. After a bumpy first couple of days, the rest of the week offers plenty of sun with minimal chances of rain. That's the word from the area branch of the National Weather Service.

Monday and Tuesday pretty much shape up as typical summer days, with chances of rain in the afternoon and highs in the upper 80s. The rest of the week, though, presents a scenario of slightly increasing temperatures with abundant sunshine. And a peek ahead to Saturday shows more of the same. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. South wind 5 to 7 mph.

Monday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Monday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am, then a slight chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 92.
