Northern Virginia Weather: Bumpy Work Week

Northern Virginia's work-week weather may start off on something of a downer but better times are expected to make a gradual arrival.

STERLING, VA — Northern Virginia's work-week weather forecast shows plenty of clouds with near-certain rain looming Monday and Tuesday, according to the Sterling branch of the National Weather Service. Not until Thursday is any appreciable sunshine expected.

As much as a half inch of rain likely will fall Monday until finally moving out in the evening. More should come in, though, and linger until Wednesday. Highs should be in the 50s most of the week. Here's the latest forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. South wind 6 to 9 mph.

Monday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. High near 71. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday Night: A chance of showers before 10pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 45. North wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tuesday: Rain likely after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Tuesday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 43. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Wednesday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Wednesday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: A chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 39.
