Northern Virginia Weather: Following a damp beginning to the work week, better days are on the immediate horizon: National Weather Service.
STERLING, VA — Despite what's expected to be a rather soggy beginning to the work week, fret not. Sunshine is on the way after Monday and should stick around for the rest of the week. That's the word for the area outpost of the National Weather Service in Sterling.
Temperatures throughout the week should be in the mid to upper 80s. By Friday, mostly sunny skies will give way to some clouds and a chance of a thunderstorm here and there. For the most part, though, (after Monday), the week ahead looks pretty darn good, save the heat.

Monday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. High near 87. South wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Monday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 68. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
