Northern Virginia Weather: It Gets Worse

Northern Virginia's work-week weather forecast offers a slight chance of snow but mostly offers more of the same — and even worse.

STERLING, VA — Northern Virginia's first work-week weather forecast of 2018 definitely does not feature high humidity with a heat index approaching 100 degrees. For heaven's sake, how many ways are there to describe this continuing odyssey of sheer, utter, bone-chilling cold. One more thing, according to the National Weather Service's arm in Sterling: it's only going to get worse.

For starters, the highs Tuesday will struggle to reach 25 and the wind chill introduces likely sub-zero possibilities. And say hello to mostly single-digit lows throughout the week. As for snow? Here's the word from the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang: "While we’ll need to monitor an ocean storm making its closest approach Thursday, snow chances appear to be low like last week — with flurries most common."

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 12. Wind chill values as low as zero. Northwest wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 25. Wind chill values as low as -1. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 13. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Wednesday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 32. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 27.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 11.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 18.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 9.
