Northern Virginia Weather: More Snow Looms

Northern Virginia's work-week weather forecast has more snow in the offing and a couple of nights when an extra log on the fire may be wise.

STERLING, VA — Northern Virginia's work-week weather forecast calls for a sunny start quickly giving way to several days of rain and snow chances along with bitter cold beginning Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service's satellite operation in Sterling. Following a slightly below-freezing Sunday night, Monday should bring light winds and highs in low 40s — and then the calm will abruptly end.

There's a slight chance of snow or sleet (or rain) every day starting Monday night, and Tuesday is expected to offer wind gust of up to 30 mph, making a high of 45 feel quite a bit cooler well into the night, when temperatures will drop into the low 20s. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 42. West wind around 6 mph.
