Northern Virginia Weather: No Soaking Rain—Yet

Northern Virginia's weekend weather forecast is a lot better than what would have been expected a few days ago before Florence shifted.

STERLING, VA—Slightly cooler temperatures, a mostly cloudy sky and slight chances of rain—that's what Northern Virginia residents are expected to see this weekend as far as weather. So says the National Weather Service and other area forecasting outlets. That includes a coastal flood advisory until 4 a.m. Sunday.

And as for what used to be Hurricane Florence? No worries in our area. However, as the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang points out: "The remnants of Florence and it’s copious amounts of tropical moisture will make a turn north later this weekend, passing close by enough to disrupt our weather at the start of next week."

Such a disruption, however slight, would come in the form of rainy conditions Monday and Tuesday. So there you go. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

Saturday: Patchy drizzle with isolated showers before noon, then scattered showers after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 79. Northeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday Night: Isolated showers before 2am. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday: A chance of showers, mainly after 11am. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 78. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 71. East wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Monday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 80. South wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Monday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tuesday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 84.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 80.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 67.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
