Northern Virginia Work-Week Weather: Be prepared for a wet beginning and then get ready for the coldest air we've experienced in a while.

STERLING, VA—There's little to love about the coming week's weather forecast for folks in the Northern Virginia area. It starts out wet and stays that way through much of Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service's local bureau in Sterling and other area forecasting outlets.

And then? Consider this, from the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang: "Our coldest air of the season so far is expected to arrive Wednesday. As per usual around here, if it’s cold, it’s windy. . . with highs only in the mid- to upper 30s and winds gusting near 20 to 30 mph from the north."

That's expected to be followed by more rain Thursday and Friday before we welcome a nice, sunny weekend. So there you go. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

Monday Night: Rain, mainly after 7pm. Low around 44. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Tuesday: Rain, mainly before 11am, then a chance of showers after 11am. High near 50. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
