Northern Virginia Weather: Rain Finally Looms

Rain is in the forecast for the Northern Virginia area but it's not yet clear exactly how much we're looking at. Tuesday could be the day.

STERLING, VA—You have may have felt it late Sunday, that unmistakable creep of "The Sticky." Northern Virginia's weather forecast for this week will feature that flick for the first couple of days before a brief break, according to the National Weather Service and other area forecasting outlets.

Rain could even enter the picture Monday afternoon and into Tuesday night, after which we'll likely get a handful of sunny days with lowered humidity. Cooler, too, but, as is pointed out by the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang, "by the weekend, it turns sticky again with showers and storms re-entering the forecast."

Monday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 77. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday: A chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. Southwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 69. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 85. North wind around 9 mph.
