NoVA, DC Weekend Weather: Showers Loom Before Steamy Labor Day

STERLING, VA—Northern Virginia's Labor Day weekend weather forecast doesn't include much sun for the first couple of days but Labor Day itself has the most potential for decent amounts of sunshine. There's a chance of showers all three days.

And as the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang points out: "Oppressively muggy and steamy conditions persist for our foreseeable future." So there you go. Here's the latest forecast from the National Weather Service's branch office in Sterling:

Friday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Calm wind becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 9pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9pm and 3am, then a chance of showers after 3am. Patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. East wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 9am. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. Light and variable wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Sunday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 9am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 88. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
