While winter-loving folks had to have dug the unseasonably cold weekend, Northern Virginia's work-week weather forecast offers change.

STERLING, VA — While winter-loving folks certainly had to have dug the unseasonably cold — sub-freezing cold — over the weekend, Northern Virginia's work-week weather forecast presents a return to the normal. So says the National Weather Service's regional office in Sterling.

Following a chance of light rain Sunday night and into the first part of Monday, mostly sunny skies are expected to dominate the week. Highs should hover in the low 50s with lows in the upper 30s. An early peek at the weekend finds showers potentially moving in, however. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tonight: Light rain likely, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Monday: A chance of light rain before 1pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 50. North wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 38. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 52. North wind 3 to 6 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 36.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 53.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 57.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 36.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 51.

Friday Night: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
