Northern Virginia Weather: Snow Is Coming

STERLING, VA — Snow's on the way. That's pretty much a given. As to what extent it affects the truncated Northern Virginia work week, that's a bit more fluid, according to the National Weather Service's area outlet in Sterling and other forecasts.

The slight chances begin Monday and will continue to increase. According to the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang, "the most likely scenarios at this point seem to span between a dusting to three inches falling between Tuesday night and Wednesday."

Things do, however, turn relatively warmer and plenty of sunshine should be around later in the week. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 16. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph.

M.L.King Day: A chance of flurries after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 30. North wind 3 to 6 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Tuesday: A slight chance of rain and snow after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tuesday Night: A slight chance of rain and snow before 8pm, then snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 23. Light north wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Wednesday: Light snow likely, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Wednesday Night: A chance of light snow before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 19. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 37.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 23.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 45.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 28.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 51.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 36.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 55.
