Northern Virginia Weather: Storm Brewing
Northern Virginia's weather forecast for the upcoming week opens with nice conditions but there's nonetheless a storm brewing out there.
STERLING, VA—Hope you were able to enjoy the nice weekend, because after a pretty good Monday, Northern Virginia's week-ahead weather forecast is looking relatively gloomy. That's the word from the National Weather Service and other area forecasters.
For one thing, there's a storm brewing. But the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang reports that the "storm system doesn’t look particularly intense. . . (Still), it’s a slow-moving one that threatens scattered showers or periods of rain Tuesday into Wednesday."
Thursday is expected to begin wet but improve as the day goes on. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service's satellite bureau in Sterling:

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 46. Southeast wind 3 to 8 mph.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 67. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Monday Night: A chance of rain after 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
Tuesday: Rain, mainly after 9am. High near 59. East wind 7 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Tuesday Night: Rain. Low around 52. East wind 7 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
Wednesday: Rain before 9am, then showers likely after 9am. High near 66. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
