Northern Virginia Weather: Storm Crawl Begins
As storms go, this one being experienced in the Northern Virginia area is of the slow-but-steady saturation variety.
STERLING, VA—When the rain finally rolled around Tuesday afternoon, it pretty much was just as advertised: steady but hardly torrential. And for the Northern Virginia area, according to the National Weather Service and other area forecasters, "storm" conditions are expected to remain as such until sometime late Wednesday.
According to the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang, "while the heaviest activity of this storm probably comes tonight, rain will linger through much of. . .Wednesday as it continues to crawl north through our region." So there you go. But relief is on the way. Here's the latest forecast from the National Weather Service's satellite center in Sterling:
Tuesday night: Rain. Low around 53. East wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Wednesday: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 65. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
Wednesday Night: A chance of showers before 9pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 49. Northwest wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
