Mother's Day Weather In Northern Virginia: Temperature Shift

Northern Virginia's Mother's Day weekend weather forecast offers a lot to like but also some things that aren't exactly ideal.

STERLING, VA—Northern Virginia's Mother's Day weekend weather forecast calls for a beautiful Saturday and a not-so-beautiful Sunday, although the latter might not be all that distasteful. That's the word from the National Weather Service's satellite headquarters in Sterling as well as other area forecasters.

Highs on Saturday should max out a little above 90 degrees under mostly sunny skies, after which clouds and some showers should move in that night along with wind gusts of up to 20 mph. Rain is likely for parts of Sunday, and in the opinion of the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang, "there seems a decent chance that we stay in the 60s all day, although this time of year it’s easy to warm up quickly with any breaks in the cloud cover."

West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
