Northern Virginia Weather: Two-Faced Work Week

STERLING, VA — For the final work week before Christmas, the Northern Virginia Weather forecast could be considered both charitable and, well, not so much. The warming trend that finally got off to a stubborn start over the weekend keeps on rolling through the first few days of the week, according to the National Weather Service's local office in Sterling.

Later in the week, though, there's a slight chance of a wintry mix, per the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang: "As of now, a developing wave of low pressure looks to track south of the area Wednesday afternoon and night, but a slight adjustment north could bring the risk of some wintry precipitation."

Also, don't get used to the expected highs Monday and Tuesday in the 50s to near 60 under partly to mostly sunny skies. Highs should be only in the 40s the rest of the week, with temperatures once again flirting with freezing. Here's the latest forecast from the National Weather Service:

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 52. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph after midnight.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 59. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 40.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 48.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 34.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50.

Friday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Sunday (Christmas Eve): A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 45.
