Northern Virginia Weather: Volatile Work Week

STERLING, VA — Well, we could tease you with talk of snow but that's not really what the National Weather Service's outpost in Sterling has to say about Northern Virginia's work-week weather forecast. So we won't, other than to report that other outlets are calling for a scant chance of few flakes later in the week.

Things are, however, expected to get wetter and colder in varying degrees. Tuesday likely holds rain throughout the night and into Wednesday. Then, that night begins a string of lows in the low 30s to upper 20s. Here's the latest forecast from the National Weather Service:

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 37. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Monday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 55. Light and variable wind.

Monday Night: A slight chance of showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tuesday: Showers likely, mainly after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 60. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Showers. Low around 44. South wind 6 to 9 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Wednesday: Showers likely, mainly before 7am. Partly sunny, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 31.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 44.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 42.

Friday Night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
